gun control

Gun control is a very serious problem in the United States today.  Americans are more likely to be harmed everyday by gun violence than other industrialized nations such as Great Britain, Germany, France, and Canada.  Every year there is an overwhelming amount of deaths in the United States because of guns thus the U.S. needs to establish more gun control laws.
In the United States not every citizen possesses a gun, but it is not hard for an individual to get hold of one.  I feel that there should be a limit on who has the ability to buy a gun based on their mental being. Why is the government allowing mentally ill  citizens who are not stable, to possess a gun? It doesn’t make sense.  It is becoming too easy for anyone to obtain a gun.
For Example in Michigan if one opens a bank account instead of getting Interest they can get a free gun.  Many believe that one needs a gun in order to protect themselves or their property in the world today. According to the men involved with the Michigan militia, you must carry a gun because it is the American Responsibility to defend yourself, but I feel that the reason Americans are scared today is because we all know the availability of weapons, especially guns and if there was a law on guns that limits them, I think it would give Americans less reason to fear everyday activities.
The numbers of deaths due to gun violence are overwhelming and are increasing. In one year, 3,012 children and teens were killed by gunfire in the United States alone, that number indicates that one child is killed every three hours, eight children every day and more than fifty children a week.  Even though gun violence is not always fatal, 4-5 times as many kids suffer from gun related injuries every year.  According to the Americans for Gun Safety Foundation, in one year, no children were killed in Japan from firearms, 19 in Great Britain, 57 in Germany, 109 in France, 153 in Canada and 5,285 in the United States. This is reason enough that the U.S. needs more gun control laws. The numbers are rising every year,  America is losing too many children every year due to gun violence.  According to the Children’s Defense Fund and National Center for Health Sciences between 1979 and 2001 gunfire killed 90,000 children and teens in America, when these numbers are added up more children and teens died from gun fire than from cancer, pneumonia, influenza, asthma, and HIV/AIDS  combined (children’s Defense Fund). Many believe that guns and suicide are closely linked, and I am one to believe it. According to the National Center for Health Statistics, youth aged from 10-19 committed suicide with a gun every six hours  in 1995, that is 1,449 children in one year. It is strongly believed that suicide is five times more likely to occur in a household with a gun than in a household without a gun.
I feel that it is necessary for the United States to put more laws on guns. If there were laws we would not be losing all these innocent lives, and many Americans would be able to live their lives without fear. Something needs to be done about these rising numbers.
